West Kelowna is a city in British Columbia’s Okanagan Valley. The city encompasses several distinct communities including historic Westbank, Glenrosa, Smith Creek, Shannon Lake, Rose Valley, West Kelowna Estates, Casa Loma, and Lakeview Heights. West Kelowna’s population in 2011 was 30,892, making it the second-largest municipality in the Kelowna-based Regional District of Central Okanagan.
West Kelowna was originally incorporated on December 6, 2007, as Westside District Municipality, so-named because it was the name of the regional district rural electoral area at the time. On January 30, 2009, the district was renamed West Kelowna. The area is also referred to as “Westbank”. The district municipality was redesignated as a city on June 26, 2015.
Pray for a new church plant in West Kelowna, British Columbia, with the Get Acquainted Meetings this Sunday night, October 16 through Thursday, Oct 20. The reproducing church is Peoples Baptist Church in Kelowna under the leadership of Pastor Wes Hutchens. The new church will be Faith’s Door Baptist with Pastor Josh Smith. West Kelowna is a growing community with a definite need for a strong, Bible-believing church. Pray as the community has been saturated with John and Roman booklets along with other gospel literature and we are anticipating the Lord to wonderful work.
First Get Acquainted Meeting
A wonderful first night! The Lord blessed in a great way with twenty-eight first-time guests from the community attending the first Get Acquainted Meeting for Faith’s Door Baptist Church in West Kelowna, British Columbia. These guests were of different ages and came from different backgrounds but they were all attending the meeting because they were looking for a Bible-believing church. All the guests stayed after the service to meet Pastor Smith and most indicated that they would be back. There were seventy-six total in attendance with Peoples Baptist Church, the reproducing church, bringing members over to help serve during the meeting. Pastor Derek Loewen, Assistant at Lighthouse Baptist Church in Missoula, MT, traveled over eight hours and brought a van full of teenagers to help with the evangelism and the meetings. Pray for the remaining four nights as we are anticipating God to do a great work in West Kelowna.

Second Get Acquainted Meeting
Nine preachers attended the second opening meeting to show their support for the new church. The dedication of these preachers and their churches has been encouraging and has given credibility to the Smith family and Faith’s Door Baptist Church. There were fifty-six in attendance with one more first-time guest. It is obvious that the Lord is at work building a strong foundation for His church in West Kelowna. Pray for the Lord to continue to work and to be glorified in the remaining three nights.

Third Get Acquainted Meeting
The Spirit of God continued to work during the third opening night for Faith’s Door Baptist Church. Many have been praying and seeking the Lord to build a strong foundation for this new work and it is obvious that He is moving, molding, and shaping His church in West Kelowna. There were three more first-time guests with forty-seven in total attendance. Seven preachers attended representing five different churches who are involved with supporting this baby church. The response from the community has been encouraging and a direct result of the extensive evangelism, preparation, and prayer. Pray for the remaining two nights and for the Lord to prosper this new work.

Fourth Get Acquainted Meeting
The first one saved! We have been praying this week for the “first fruits” and specifically for some to be saved. Pastor Smith got a call from a young man who has been attending the meetings faithfully and asked if they could meet. It was during this meeting that the young man expressed his desire to receive Christ and he was gloriously saved! He came forward during the invitation that night to make his decision public. The Lord has been working in each service with many making decisions and earnestly seeking the Lord. Pastor Rich Aulin of Okanagan Valley Baptist Church brought several members and traveled down to help with the fourth meeting and gave encouraging remarks about the Smith family. Pray for the final night as most of the guests mentioned that they would return. Pray also for the power of God upon Pastor Smith as he preaches.

The special music and singing from other churches this week has been a tremendous blessing and has displayed the godly music that Faith’s Door Baptist will
have in their services.
Final Get Acquainted Meeting
Eighty-one people attended the final Get Acquainted Meeting for Faith’s Door Baptist Church including several returning guests and three new ones. Pastor Hutchens read declarations establishing Josh Smith as the new pastor. Pastor Smith then preached and shared his vision and focus for Faith’s Door Baptist Church. One of the highlights of the night was when the children from Peoples Baptist Church presented a check for over $2100 to the new church. This is from a children’s offering where the kids have been putting money into a “piggy bank” at the church for over a year. Little is much when God is in it! Pray for their first Sunday and for the power of God upon this new church in West Kelowna, British Columbia.
Brother Rowland presented Pastor Hutchens with a “Certificate of Birth” for the new church.
