14 Mar Dr. Jessup’s Health Update – March 13, 2013
UPDATE ON CANCER
I am sorry I have not gotten this update out sooner. Please forgive me and thanks for those who wrote to ask. Right after the appointment on Monday, we left for New York. Pastor and Mrs. Pennell went with us and we dropped our wives off in Buffalo and went to Rome, NY to work on a church plant. I had no access to Internet while gone.
We met with Dr. Law, the pancreatic surgeon, and they decided to hold off on surgery until they can do an endoscopy. They are going to do an ultrasound of the pancreas from the stomach. They are also going to put a needle from the stomach into the pancreas to aspirate cells from the lesion/cyst in the pancreas. The reason they are doing this is because the mass in the pancreas looks “weird” (their word not mine). They just aren’t sure what it is and don’t want to do the very serious operation until they know more about the mass.
We are waiting for a call from the hospital with a date for this procedure. It is out-patient so I will not have to be in the hospital overnight. This is to be done ASAP. They will get a pathology report on the cells as quickly as possible and then we will follow-up with another appointment to determine the next course of action.
They did say that they looked at the August, 2012 scan and they believe the mass is there but barely noticeable. From this, they believe that it is not growing aggressively. They believe this is a good thing and that surgery can wait for a period of time to find out more information about this mass.
Thank you so much for praying and please continue to pray for us. We are trusting the Lord with all of this.
Co-Laborers Together in the Great Commission,
Earl D. Jessup
